Does anyone know what the normal age range for a colt's testicles to drop? My colt is 8 months old and so far has not dropped at all, not even one! Should I be concerned?

Thanks Sammie! I'm glad we could help each other out. So far this colt has been my best stallion prospect yet and I was starting to panic a little that I haven't seen any testicles! :-)

My colt is going to be 2 this May, and he still hasn't dropped all the way. He has one, and I can see the other one up in there. He's also been slow to develope so far. We asked the vet about it, and he said he's probably just slow at developing & didn't act like it'd be a problem.

Often they will be dropped as babies, then draw back up til they're more mature.

I too was starting to worry. I have a (will be in July) two year old. His are only walnut size as of now, and he still has no interest in mares at all. He has been out with bred and non bred mares for all of his life. He is the most respectful horse that I have ever worked with.

Sometimes a young stallion won't show any interest in mares until he is seperated for a while.

Hi All - My seven month old shows no sign of dropping any time soon either...I guess we should all be thankful that the boys are taking their time LOL.

Absolutely my thoughts Cheryl! Once they arrive, so do numerous other issues....they're better off where they are for a while!:-)

Ok, so I have a coming 2 yr old (2 in April) that has only dropped one testicle. At what age do you start to worry about this? He is starting to act like a stallion now. Nothing serious, but he is definately getting a tiny bit studdy.

Alexandra you are lucky he's only a tiny bit studdy. My "Dirty Harry" (12.0 hand pony) finally dropped he's 2nd testicle about a month before he turned 2, but had been acting real studdy before he turned a year old. I so desperately wanted to geld him, I even had my vet tranq. and ultra sounded, no sign of it. My vet said his 1 testicle was small and the other was most likely smaller, give him time as they get heavier gravity will kick in, four months later it appeared. Since it was going to cost $1200 and I had more time than money I waited. He had been doing a lot of rearing and mounting with an older gelding, I'm wondering if that help open things up so it could drop. Poor Dirty Harry, he was palpated everyday hoping it would be there. The day it appeared I called my vet, he came out the next day and got them both before they disappeared.

LOL!! I so understand what you are saying!! I palpate my skitch everyday too! He is in a pasture with my old gelding and they play pretty rough... here's to hoping it will drop soon!! Of course, I'm out of town for a month so it probably dropped the day after I left! My husband surely isn't going to palpate him... so I will be running out to the field as soon as I get home to "feel him up"!! LOL!
