At what age can you honestly say...yep, he's cryptorchid?
We have a 2 yr old colt who has yet to decend his testicles. I can palpate at least one just above his scrotum.
Any ideas, advice, knowledge?

Lisa: My stallion didn't drop his second testicle until he was 3 years old: Some colts drop later than others and it can become a waiting game. It is very expensive to have the retained testicle removed, so maybe you want to wait a little while longer...if you are planning on gelding him.

cryptorchid is genetically based and inherited. Check with the breed organization whether any of the ancestors were crytorchids! If so, well better consider castrating the horse, since you cannot show him at least in Quarterhorses and USA Equestrian Breed Shows! Furthermore the non descending testicle can cause all kind of problems, which are more expensive to deal with than the castration at a young age. You will always have problems with selling the offspring and him later on!
