I am considering purchasing a 7yr old Appaloosa stallion, should be going to look at him this weekend. Anyway I am an experienced horse person and an advanced rider, I event competitively as well. I am looking at this boy as an event prospect. I would like to keep him intact if he is quiet and manageable, but gelding isnt a far off thought. He would be going out with a LARGE but quiet/submissive gelding as his only companion on the farm. Exposure to mares would be limited... he has 16 foals on the ground, limited training. With this sort of situation how can I make sure he will be quiet and well behaved at an event? Also what techniques are best to reprimand inappropriate behavior under saddle? Any other advice for a new stallion owner would be greatly appreciated. Karma

Hi the best thing is to talk with his current owners how do they reprimand him? Everyone varies..
I had a handler who used to squirt ice water on the stallion's penis with a squirt bottle if he dropped inappropriately..when in halter..( stallion retracted quite quickly and it was not seen for quite sometime.. He had this really surprised look on his face too.)
Keeping him with the gelding sounds like a good idea if it works..
