I just bought the biggest sweetest Throughbred Stallion. He's soo docile, and he's the most gourgous thing in the world. But, since he's still a "virgin" I was wondering if his wonderful personality will change once he starts breeding?
Yes his behavior will change, but with a lot of work. Won't change too much. My stallion is sweet, but after breeding 9 mares. He is more nippy and definately more Independent. He is not with other horses because he just doesn't mind his own business. Mounting him to ride him he is a little more antsy, but when I am on him nothing has change in or out of the show ring, but handwalking is a different story.. Good Luck It is a lot of work, but we already know this right? when you own a stallion.

I agree with applewood. I have also found my stallion became more "confident" as well. Things that used to scare him don't anymore, I couldn't believe the difference. Needless to say, I was happy about that...the other things you will have to just deal with. My horse is allowed to be a stallion (drop/yell) when it's appropriate, but when I am riding/long lining or showing, he HAS to be a gentleman and focus on his job. I am lucky in that he seems to know when it's time for work and when it's time for play. There's lot's of literature out there on this kind of thing, get your hands on whatever you can. Good luck
