Last summer my father-in-law rescued this stallion from poor conditions, and the horse was even in worse condition. Many times last spring he would try and get our mare but the muscles in his hind legs were to weak and he would fall. My father-in-law wanted to mate our mare so he took her somewhere in June and July. We didn't think she took because we thought we seen her come in in August. I didn't want him to try anymore that year because I didn't want the foal to be born to close to winter. Through winter she started getting real fat but not extreme. (Just thought she was gaining wait because we upped the stallions rations to try and put his weight back on, so she got a small snack on his extra feeding) We took her last weekend to get checked and she is pregnant, and the vet said she should foal in about 30 days. SHOCKED because the earliest we thought it would be in June, because of the second breeding but he said it is not uncommon for them to go into heat a couple of times after they took. About 1 month ago we unfortunatly had to put the stallion down he just got weaker and weaker till he couldn't stand anymore. So my question is how accurate can a vet be on determining how far she is along, and if by some miracle did my stallion get her when we was not watching. (that would be so awesome, I miss him so much!)}}
I would think pretty close. The average time for pregnancy is 340 days from breeding. My vet says 2 weeks either way though.
