My mare is at day 326 and not showing much discomfort yet. Fairly fulkl bag with big milk veins though. Anyhow I bought the walmart pool test strips and if I did it right, they say we are close!! I got 1 cc of mare's milk and put it in a container with 6 cc's distilled water. I then stirred it and put the test strip in for about 2 seconds. When i read the strip, it says her Calcium is 400 and her PH is about 6.6-6.8. This is my first time testing her, so really not sure if I need to be camping out yet or not. What do you think??

Is her milk white? I would probably camp out with those ph levels. If her milk is white and not clear then even more so. Good luck!

Her milk is getting white. It is also getting a little sticky. I will put a drop on my tongue later today to test for sweetness. It is just puzzling, hercause her vulva doesn't look ready yet and she isn't acting like a horse ready to foal. Guess I will have to just watch her closely and see!

Candi, in that range of testing, she can change very quickly, or hold on for a couple of days. Vulva's can change quick too, soo I would be camping out, better to Camp out than miss it!
Best wishes for safe foaling!!

My horse who is being extra stubborn about having her foal took about 2.5 days to go from whiteish and sticky to white (though not sweet yet). Her vulva has been swelling up and then back down for days. I am with holly. Better to camp out a little extra than to miss it. Wishing you an uneventful foaling. :-)

Strips tested the same tonight-Calcium is 400 and PH is 6.6. Her temperature is right at 99. Vulva is relaxed and starting to elongate. She has now lost the resistance in her tail. Sheseems really restless tonight and is following me around like a lost puppy, not wanting me to leave her. My hunch is that it will be tomorrow night, but I better watch her like a hawk tonight too just in case.

I would expect her ph to drop to 6.4 or lower, though you might not catch it. Her calcium will also jump up over 500. you may not catch that either...
Keep us posted!
