My mini just had her second foal. I have been watching ever so close... Did not believe it was comming on Saturday and had to work late and return early Sun Am. So I just stayed at work (Hotel) to have my husband call and inform me we have a filly. She was up and about doing great, mom looked awsome too. I got home at 2:00 stall was LOADED with poop... I stripped the stall (SUN 2:00)and put fresh hay bedding down and 5:00 Monday morning still no poop... she is eating fine and nursing great... when do I worry?? added a bit or corn oil to am grain to help things along?? How long is the longest I should wait till I panic?? Vets are hard to come-by in our area and dont just stop in when they are in the area?? My vet is great and will come out usally within a day or so when I beg!! Thanks in advance!

My mare did the same thing. She went almost 24 hours before we saw manure. I talked with my vet when I didn't see poop for about 8 hours post-delivery and he gave me banamine paste to give her. He said she was probably very sore, and since they tend to clean out their colon right before delivery it could be 12-24 hours before they pass manure again. He also suggested a bran mash.

I would be worried about your mare if she is showing any signs that would indicate colic, but other wise, based on my experience this seems like a common thing. But I would still talk with your vet just in case. Good luck!

Thanks Kate, I completely forgot about bran mash, Duh. That is another reason I love this board... I did think about the banamine but was not sure if it would enter the milk?

My minis never poop till the next day sometime late in the evening....24 hrs is no big deal. If you go an entire day without, i'd be concerned...though I have no idea if I should be
