I rescued this mare about 2 months ago. She was extremely thin. We live on an island with no horse vet by the way. Once she began to fatten up we realized she is pregnant. Last week her udders began to fill up. This morning she would not take her breakfast and was up and down as if she was in the first stages of labour. She is still not very big for a pregnant mare but her sides have dropped down today. She has had some edema on her belly. Her vulva is lengthened and swollen. The question I have is her udders have gone completely down like there is no milk in there. Has anyone out there ever seen this happen? I just check on her and she is up and eating hay now, much more settled than this morning.

Thanks for the response Pam. Yes she is a narrow mare. As of now she seems to have settled and not doing anything.
