I am in upstate SC and my mare went finally foaled at 348 days. We have had 6 inches of snow, tornadoes, and freezing rain in the last 2 months. Not to mention it goes from 70 degrees one day and 40 degrees the next. |

Hi Sheila, I feel your pain. This same mare foaled at 372 days with her first foal. My vet manually manipulated her cervix and we think this is what finally started her labor. Good Luck. |

Well my mare was bred in the wild so I don't really know if she's past 350 days or not, but I'm going to pretend she is because the vet said she should foal the first week of April lol...I'm in southeast Oklahoma, 10 minutes south of Heavener in a small community called Hontubby. Very close to the Arkansas border. |

Sorry Michelle, 365 dyas is the longest we've had. any chance she might not be in foal or she could have aborted it at some stage during the year. If you are concerned for your own peace of mind it might be an idea to get the Vet to palpate her |

I took the mare in at 12 months and had her palpated and ultrasounded. Everything was normal, foal was right on track for size. Vet told me to wait! I called him at 380 days and he still has no answers and tells me to wait. We're at 382 days today. Mare seems not bothered by it at all. Healthy + Happy. But still not much of a bag to speak of and no relaxing of the hind muscles at all! |

I called Texas A&M yesterday, and consulted with them. They said it's not uncommon for mares to go over and as long as the mare is comfortable not to worry. It will come. I talked with a lady today, that had a maiden mare carry 2 months over, exactly to the day. Had a healthy colt. They were going to induce. But the mare beat them to the punch, by foaling the day before. So I feel better! I can breathe a sigh of relief. For Now! |

My mare is now at 367 and no foal. I thought the other night she would have it. Very restless kicking/biting her belly pushing her butt on the wall -- looks like the foal has dropped but still has NO UDDER at all..... so I am dead tired worrying and waiting |

I finally had time to crunch the numbers for our farm in central Kentucky. Our foaling dates are set on a 350 day gestation and all figures to follow are based on that. I am assuming that 6 days on either side of the due date as normal. We have a total of 128 foalings as of this afternoon. One foaling was discarded because of an infection caused a premature birth and was not included into the 128. Percentages are rounded to the nearest tenth. 8 to 11 days early - 3.1% 6 days early to 6 days over(normal) - 42.2% 7 to 13 days over - 32.6% 14 to 20 days over - 17.6% 21 to 28 days over - 4.5% We do have more mares going over this year than in the last 2. Also mare going over longer than they have in the past. Overall we are averaging 7.48 days over their due dates. In 2007 it was 5.46 days over and in 2008 it was 6.01 days over. In all only 2 mares out of 128 foaled on their due date. I hope someone finds this information useful or realizes just how bored I am! |

I hear ya on the breeding for an early baby!!! I'm glad I bred my mare this early so the baby will still be here before July! At least the weather is starting to warm up. I'm glad you have milk to test. Where did you get the strips from? My mare doesn't have milk yet, so I guess it doesn't matter. She is drooping quite a bit now so at least her muscles are relaxing for the delivery. Keep me updated! |

370 days today and still no change. Bag is still firm but smaller. Vag is tighter and not as relaxed. I have stopped the every 2 hr checks since Monday per the vets orders, lol. He actually told me to get some sleep until I start seeing more changes, I love that man, lol!!! Told me all looked well and do the waiting game. (as he laughed at me cuz he knows my patience level!) She is still calm and relaxed. |
