hey ive got a madian mare whos "due" july 10th. I know that its an estimate. we bred her early june, she stood for almost a week for the stud, then came into heat for 2 days in aug breed agian. no other heat signs inbetween. Confirmed in foal mid. feb. couldnt tell when she was due.

shes been plugging along great. 3 weeks ago started to bag up a little over 1/2, her rear is jello and vulva is really long. she paces allnight and rolls and rolls.

2 days ago her bag disapeared over night. She got a little runny nose but its gone the next morning. It allso stoped raining (2 weeks strait UCK). I check her temp and milk test everynight. The milk is amber, the night before she lost her bag it was starting to turn white, her ph droped and temp went way down. And then .....NOTHING..... I can still easly express milk. it was thick and amber last night but not at all white. temp was perfect.
She has no edema and is well very healthy.

what should i do? the vet is only to be called in emergency... i dont trust them at all.

My biggest fear is maybe she took in june. she really didnt want the stud in aug but she acted like she was kinda in heat, so we bred her, but she didnt act like she did in june. We didnt force her but she kind could care less. If she took in june (vet told me possible but unlikly) then she is one year as of the 6th.

has anyone actually had a mare foal with no bag? i know everyone says it happend but does anyone have one that does? i dont know if i can handle this for 2 more months tell shes overdue acording to the second breeding date....

IS there anything i can do to check for the foal in place myself? Like I said I dont want to call the vet they have skrewed up to many times in the past.

Corina,

I hate to tell you this, but when my mare (maiden) did the same thing 2 years ago, it was a false pregnancy.

Corina my maiden did this to me as well. She baged up at about 3weeks with milk and everything. I thought forsure. Next day nothing. Three weeks later she had her foal. Maidens do things like this. Thats why we love them so much.

She looks to be an older mare. I've heard of older mares having higher instances of false pregnancies, maybe this is the case?

Corina,

I bred again last year and am still waiting. This year her breasts are so full it looks like she is a stallion from the back! Of course, she is still looks really fat as she was a large foundation mare to begin with. If I didn't have her papers, I would swear there is draft there! So, like you, I just keep watching and waiting and hope that I will not be at work when it happens!
