So my mare is getting close to her due date ( I hope!) and this morning I noticed that the underside of her belly is shaped kind of weird. It has like lumps, and it almost looks like the baby's legs or something... Her belly also looks like it's almost "splitting" apart or something. Is this normal??

I don;t know, Emily, but does it continue to change shape? Could the baby's legs be moving around? Maybe it is just getting into position??

Emily..could very well be some edema..pretty common in late term pregnant mares. They look dimpled and funny shaped. Hang in there

Yeah I called my vet and asked her about it today...Lol. That's what she said. My mare is a pretty big barreled girl and she says it's sometimes common in them to get that towards the end of pregnancy. Thank you!
