I am very distressed. I have a 3 wk old foal who didnt nurse the first 8 hours of life and finally did. His IgG was between 400-800 and we dipped his navel 2-4 times daily for the first week. Well, for the past 3 days he has been hypersalivating, depressed slightly, and lame on one rear leg. None of his joints appear swollen but he has a severe fungal skin disease (appears to be rain rot or dermatophilus). He is nursing ok but sleeps a lot and mom leaves him and he doesnt care. His gums are still pink but he does have slight diarrhea. He is a purebred arabian. I am calling a vet tomorrow but anything sounds familiar to anyone? Help!! I am so upset and this is my first foal out of my favorite mare!!!
Sounds like many different things going on here and as LRidgeway posted, I wouldn't waste time posting....I would call the vet today. Newborn foals don't tolerate much stress/infection and can go downhill very quickly.
