So today I've noticed my mare lifting up her tail a lot and kicking at her belly. Could she be getting ready to give birth? She's due in about two weeks or so, I believe, but I haven't noticed any waxing or anything.
Emily, Those are both signs of foaling getting closer, but not reliable on their own...I have found that mares will do that when baby is in an uncomfortable position too..My mare does it every once in a while for the past few weeks, but isn't due for another 3 or 4 weeks. One of my other mares ONLY acts that way the DAY OF foaling, and seems normal every other day. So, without putting it together with other signs of foaling, I don't think i'd rely solely those 2 things.
Alright, thanks. She calmed down tonight and wasn't doing it.
