What does the registry require? Do they belive it, or do they want some kind of proof? I've always wondered

I'm not sure what you mean either? If you're talking about long gestations, then I've never had a registry question it at all. Most anymore require a hair sample to test for parentage anyway; and I don't think that the registry even ever calculates gestation anyhow (way too much work).

C Carner- QH does not require DNA unless the horse in question is used for breeding purposes so I understand your question. I would assume that they could request a sample to verify parentage should there be a discrepancy in the breeding/foaling dates. We've never had one bornt that late though. Ev

C Carner, I think I know what you mean as well and your question may be related to my 433 day filly born yesterday. I went to enter my filly’s birthday today on APHA’s website and, not surprisingly, I received a message saying the foaling date is outside the gestation period permitted and I need to contact APHA. I sent an email to APHA with all of the relevant data and I expect the answer will be DNA tests are required. That’s fine with me, I was planning to do them anyway just because it is so unusual for a mare to carry that long even though I know what the test results will say, especially after seeing the baby. She has her daddy’s head and looks a little overcooked. As I go through this I will post the process and the resolution if anyone is interested.

My 375 day colt last year sailed through APHA online registration with no questions asked.
