I have another question......Our little man likes to mimic his mom... he eats grass and nibbles at her oats. He nurses and drinks from the water bucket.... he is 13 days old today and I'm concerned that his tummy can't handle the food. Is it normal for them to start sampling the food? He was constipated last night. Is this from the grass and oats? Any advice would be greatly appreciated....I had no idea we were going to be having this little one and am learning on the fly now.
We had a filly born this year that was sampling a good amount of her momma's alfalfa starting at 2 days old. She ended up getting the scours bad for two weeks. Her poop was green and you could see digested hay in it! I tried probiotics talked to the vet etc. She seemed to think it was the hay. We put the hay in a hay bag and hung it up high so she couldn't reach it. The scours went away! So yes, they can definately eat it.
I have a 2 week old male foal who is very energetic and looks very healthy. Is it normal for his Penis to always be hanging outside of the sheath? He seldom pulls it inside the sheath (except when he runs).
It is perfectly normal for the boys to "hang out". All my colts have done that. We have a 3 month old colt and he still has his hanging outside the sheath most of the time.
