My littl burro started to develop a swelling on her stomache just before her teets. Doesn't feel or look like edema, it is almost like it's 2 different swellings. It looks like 2 lines running parallel with each other, swollen, leading to her teets.
One minute it will be there, the next day it's way smaller, or gone.
Could be. I don't know. I don't remember my mare having that, but that was a long time ago.
She's been swollen in the rear (vulva area) for about 2 weeks now. Last night she was actually open a little. Like right in the middle there was actually a small, about an inch long space, where it was open a little. Then this morning she's back to being tightened up again. Still swollen, but tight, no opening.
I got excited there for a minute! She's teasing me, and it's killing me.
My main concerns is, we don't know when she was bred, how old she really is (BLM said 1 yr, we know now that's not true, vet says maybe 2 yrs. +) We also don't know if she got enough food out in the wild to make sure the baby was healthy at the begining of her pregnancy.
I'm hoping she had enough to eat and was healthy enough at the beginning.
This weekend is 8 weeks that we've had her. 2 weeks after getting her, we called the vet because her belly just BLOOMED and he confirmed the pregnancy for us. Since then she's been on a vitamin/mineral supplement along with her feed. So at least I know she's been fed well in these last 2 motnhs.
I am new here....I bought a mare that the seller said she had bred aug7 & 8th 2006,vet checked her and said she wasn't in foal...but she has gotten bigger, she is a long backed mare, her due date is July 14 or 15th , this week, her milk glands are swollen in front of teats, and a little bit behind teats are kinda hard, I just barely squeezed her teat this am and whitish clear liquid came out fast....have not seen any movement but the mare's belly has jumped a few times....alot of huge veins under belly to behind elbows and along underbelly.....seems like vet made mistake....could he have missed it..he checked her when she was 4-5 months? She isn't huge for a mare in foal, but definetly has round low hung belly.
