My mare foaled last year, and was in horrible pain post partum, unable to rise without banamine...she was sent to a veterinary hospital and treated for shock and retained placenta. While there her foal died. She was sent home in pain, on banamine, and bled profusely from the vagina. Months later, an ultrasound shows an external uterine abscess with adhesions to the ilium of the left horn. What is her prognosis for ever having breeding soundness? She is profusely infected.
Kathy, Think that has to be a Trained VEt's call...and she needs to be cleaned up interanlly.. ..probably biopsied and scanned to see how the other horn is affected. The abscess dealt with..it may be very costly.
