One of my new mini colts got choked the night before last. The vet advised us to watch him, that it was very unlikely he was choking since he was so young. He settled down a good bit so we relaxed. The next morning, his face was covered with slime and when he drank milk or water it poured out his nose.
Another vet came out and put a tube through his nose to his stomach twice, the second time the obstruction moved. He immediately began nursing and drinking water and seemed to perk up.

This morning he can barely walk, he is very stiff legged and barely nursing (if he is even getting any). The first vet from above is coming out later this morning. What do you all think? He is only about 20 pounds, so they don't want me to give him probios for colic.

Aspiration pneumonia or obstruction from what he choked on...or a perforation in the esophagus/stomach from the tube. Take his temp so that at least you have that ready for the vet when he comes. Poor baby...

Hi Toni, my foal suffered from aspiration pneumonia this year and he exhibited choke symptoms. I agree with Jane that you should take his temp. and have the vet draw blood. I guess by now the vet has been there I hope all went well. Good luck with the little guy.

Hope the baby is okay, what did the vet say? Just curious trying to learn all I can.
