hi there. question about something i don't have much experience with. can anyone shed light of the effectiveness of equilox extensions for a month old foal that is toeing in ? looking for a second opinion or any experience that someone might have. my colt is about 35 days and starting to toe in from his fetlock joint. he has just started to noticably develop this way in the last week or so. i would appreciate any thought before i decide to move ahead with it.

I have used them with some success. I highly recomment the use of Dyna Splints. They are amazing. |

Diane - Toed in is when the outside digit is turned inward causing the toes to point in and the fetlock to point out. the appearance is that the hoof wall is shorter on the outside causing the horses hoof or toe to point inward. If both feet are toed in its called pigeon toed. Inproper trimming and shoeing can also cause this.
By shortening the inside hoof wall and lengthening the outside the problem can be fixed exspecialy if done when they are young. |

how does the dyna splint work. when did you use them (age wise) and how quickly/effectively did they correct ? are they extensions of sorts and did they require restricted turn out ?

my colt is just starting to develop varus fetlocks and i want to nip it in the bud as they say.

I used the dyna splint from 5 days old until he was about 4 months old. It is a 12 hour on 12 hour off thing. Yes the foal is restricted to just the stall, which most crooked foals should be anyway. I restrict the exercise of all my incorrect foals, giving their skeleton a chance to catch up. |
