Does any one collect and freeze their own colostrum or plasma? For plasma do you only use geldings, are they blood typed, what vaccines and what volume can one horse supply? What processing and filtration methods do you use? What are the costs associated? I am working with a farm with Mammoth donkeys so commercial horse products are not an option due to rejection possibilities.
My wife does the collecting of Colostrum. She sits herself next to the mare and milks her like she did the cows. She has a rule, One teat for the foal and the other is for the Colostrum Box. She milks the mare into a container and then strains the colostrum. She stores it in a Zip lock freezer bag with the amount, the date and the Mares Name. She has been doing it this way for years and she also saves milk. When we were snowed in one year, I had mares Milk in my coffee.

I too save colostrum. I just milk the mare within 6 hours of foaling and usually pull about 4 ounces each hour so not to hinder her foal. I do not pull plasma though since I give every foal two doses on Rhodo plasma, tough to find enough exposed gelding to pull from.
