My mini mare is about 320 days along...well should be. She has put on 35 pounds in the last 8 weeks but doesnt look huge like some mares. My vet came out and looked on the left side just in a small area with the external ultrasound and said she didnt see a foal. This mare is digging massive holes, very jumpy, put on weight (only on the belly area) and I can feel movement hit my hand at different times and on both sides. She also started to develope a bag about 2 weeks ago but it went down and she is still swollen just in front of her teats. Just curious if the vet could have missed a smaller foal? any advice?

We did an external ultrasound at 8 months, no matter where the probe was on her belly, we could clearly see something in there...hoping the baby was just hiding from you!

I have seen MANY mini ultrasounds in late pregnancy.....my vet is very good at it. It's often very hard to see ANYTHING...and before finding this vet, i had several scanned as "open" when i had a feeling i knew better. The key is to shave the flank area, and look for RIB SHADOWS. There is nothing else in that area that will make that same shape.

oh thank you so much, I know what I am feeling is not normal, it does at least give me some hope. finegrs crossed and prayers said. My vet is not very comfortable with mini's and is use to bigger horses so I was just wondering if there was a chance she missed it! I wont get my hoprs up but its nice to know there is still a chance.
