My mare was ultrasounded today. She was last live covered on June 14th. She had one large cyst which the vet identified during her pre-breeding exam. During the ultrasound today, he found what he thought to be an embryonic vesicle, but it was only the size of about a 9 day pregnancy instead of a 16 day. Other than the size, it appeared healthy. Nice crisp lines. Only the one cyst was identified during her pre-breeding ultrasound. She was not showing any signs of coming into heat. Will be reultrasounding towards the end of the week probably.

Anybody else have experience with smaller than normal embryonic vesicles? I'm all stressed out now. Is it probably unviable? Any thoughts would be appreciated

A nine-day vesicle is only just visible on ultrasound. If it truly is a pregnancy and there is a 7 day variation in size, there are two likely possibilities. The first that she is in the process of losing it; the second that there was an asynchronous ovulation that resulted in the second pregnancy.

Other possibilities are a previously undetected cyst, or uterine fluid.

Well, she was reultrasounded 3 days later and everything was normal! Vesicle was an 18 day. Not sure what happened in 3 days, but all looks well now.

I wasn't actually present for the untrasound, but I think it was probably a bit early for the heartbeat? Thanks for the Congrats! I'm pretty excited!

Thanks for all the nice comments guys. Yes, it is amazing cjskip! He is by the trakehner stallion Hadrian and he sold at 9 days old! I am kicking myself for not repeating the cross this year, but my mare was just confirmed in foal to Westporte today!!
