Hello all, I havent been on here for ages...reason being first a computer problem, i was without one for 6 weeks and then no time!!!
I am happy that i have 3 healthy foals born this year..however unfortunately one mare died just 3 minutes after the birth!! This was so awful for me because she was my best, favourite mare,i had had her for 9 years, had competed her and bred her and she was my everything...there was nothing found wrong with her and the birth was normal, luckily i found a surrogate mare for the poor foal and she is happy with her new mum!! It has taken me a long time to get used to all of this, the mare was to have this last foal and then just be used for riding in the forest and being loved!!

Then one week later the daughter of this mare had to be put down, very bad wobbler and a heart problem..all too serious to treat!!

Moving on...I have a pregnant mare due 20 july and she has a rather large udder and back end is getting loose and I think she is carrying very low, milk is cloudy and sticky...any ideas? I had all this before last year also a maiden..foaled too early and the foal died...i so hope we arent going through this again!!!
I will take some pics and post them...
Congrats to all with new foals!!!!

Hi, I tried to come up with another suggestion but i do think it was probably the plug too!!
She should foal in approx 7 weeks and in my experience the mucous plug can be seen within days or a week before the birth!!
I know maidens can be very difficult to predict as far as foaling is concerned but i am a little worried about this mare!!

You may be wise to have her checked by your vet, early signs like this can be a sign on Placentitis. At least speak to your vet, and get his/her thoughts. Good luck!

Well the foal is still alive!! I drove her to the clinic and they will do all possible to delay the birth, so fingers crossed!
