If a mare aborts early in pregnancy say around the 30-40th day after breeding. How long would it take after loosing the pregnancy would the presence of PMSG be detectable in the mares blood?
I ordered a pregnamare for the mare that was injured. It has been 2 weeks since the injury. She is over 40 days since last cover now. I would like to test her with the pregna mare. But I am curious if I should wait in case she aborted from the injury.
The manufactures label says to wait 1-2 weeks to re test.
Thank you!

eCG (which is the correct name for PMSG - that name not having been used except by the makers of the Pregnamare kit for almost 20 years now!) will continue to be secreted until the endometrial cups regress once they have formed (which formation happens around 36 days). The range of continued secretion will vary, but can continue up to 120-150 days after the mare was originally bred, although around 90 days is probably more common. The secretion of the eCG causes the production of secondary CL's which will prevent the mare from returning to estrus until after those secondary CL's have also regressed.

Thank you Jos, So if she aborted before day 30 no cups fill form?
And if she aborted shortly after the cups formed it will take till at least day 90 for the system to be clear?

Ok Jos, one more question, Have you ever used the pregna mare?
I just finished the test and it says 1 dot neg and 2 dots positive for pregnancy.
I have 2 dots but one is lighter than the other. Is this normal for this test?

Ok so I read that a second dot that was very faint is a neg. But also my dot was more purpleish than blue so any suggestions?
Anyone had this result?

Sorry, can't help - we use ultrasounds and palpation for pregnancy detection. It's more reliable!

I never knew determining a pregnancy ( especially in a mini) could be so difficult!

Bonny, isn't there an 800 number you could call to find out. Brenda@doubleuacres.com Here's an email address for the pregnamare site. You could email them and ask the question. I'm sure they'd be happy to assist you.

Marilyn,How funny, Brenda is trying to help me as we speak. She thinks 2 dots is 2 dots So there fore both mares were bred in Feb. But with the label I am confused. So she is looking into it for me, she is so very helpful! If I need to order a wee foal or another pregnamare it will be from her!
