I have a 21 year old mare with a three month old foal at her side. She is not bred back yet. I noticed her occasionally leaking urine towards the end of her pregnancy but thought it must be related to the pregnancy and perhaps the extra pressure of the foal. She is now leaking so much urine that it pours out of her and is scalding her back legs and udder. I have never seen this before and wanted to breed the mare again if possible. What can be the cause and is there a cure?

This is something that I think you should definitely consult your veterinarian about. Now, I am not an expert by any means, and I personally have never seen this before either, but I did look through a veterinary book that I have and looked up incontinence, and everything I read points to some type of paralysis of the bladder that is generally caused by an injury to the spinal cord. Of course this is just what a book is saying, so that is why you should consult your vet. Good luck.
