We have a mare ready to foal in July and she has a rectal-vaginal fistula. Do we repair it prior to delivery? Is there risk to the unborn foal? Risk to the mare if it's not done?

No idea, I would sure check with my Vet!!
We had one here that had a tear due to foaling a breach and it was repaired, but took quite awhile to heal up. We hosed it once a day to help it granulate in and to keep it clean prior to the surgery for 3 months.

I would think there is a chance the baby could tear it worse, but I would guess it's kind of late to repair it before she foals.

What does your Vet say? I hope she does ok and you'd better watch her closely during labor!
