We have a maiden mare that was bred and checked at 100 days.... Vet. says fetus is size of 70 day. So, we check her again at 130 ....this time vet. says there is nothing there but a big uterus...nothing is bouncing back up to her hand. I have seen no miscarriage; no discharge. The mare is now 150 day and her teats are large, her belly is big. The only thing she is doing is she has a tiny bit of mucusy discharge(clear)....I mean tiny too...maybe a half of a drop on the vulva. Anyone have any experience in this or opinions....?? Thanks.

How is the vet checking her. If its an internal and not an ultrasound the baby drops down out of reach so they would not be able to feel the foal. One question. Why do you keep checking her?

At the 130 day she was palpated and ultrasound.
We kept checking her because we wanted to know that she was in foal. At the 100 day check we would have stopped but the fetus was not the right size ... possibly indicating that it was not viable or growing. She is also on ReguMate due to low preg. levels. So, we need to know whether to take her off....because the fetus was dead.
I guess my real question is ...
Has anyone ever had a mare abort at 70-100 days and not seen any discharge(not pastured horses of course).
