I have tried breeding my 4 year old maiden mare AI 2 times this summer and have not been successful. The first time, even though the timing was perfect, she did not get in foal. The second time, ultrasound at around day 16 showed pregnancy with twins but there was some adema, she had a 34mm follicle, and the fetuses were small and irregularly shaped. Less than a week later, ultrasound revealed neither sign of the fetuses nor adema (everything looked completely healthy). Does anyone have comments on EED in young maiden mares? Suggestions? We have only one more chance this season (because the mare is located in Florida) and are really hoping it works this time. Vet does plan on doing cytology and culture at the applicable time this try.
