Can anyone comment on using this method and frozen semen on problem mares? How successful is it, any reports on its technique?

I can rather recommend it for breeding a normally fertile mare with frozen semen that needs help. As in it is more likely to help the semen vs. the mare.

Does anyone know where I can find more detailed information about deep horn insemination?

My vet and Judy Yancey had a different take on it. Both would try it only as a last resort as they do believe it causes too much irritation.

My vet says he gets "as close as possible" but wont' actually go to the end of the horn because of that.

There is an interesting thesis on deep-horn insemination available for view at http://etd.lsu.edu/docs/available/etd-01082005-103926/unrestricted/Thesis.pdf

Do note that it is a thesis - in other words, not peer-reviewed research - but it does contain a description of the process and some interesting discussion relating to its use in delayed uterine clearance mares.

Thanks for the info. I will go check it out. Did anyone else read the article about Smart Little Lena. Don't qoute me on this, but I thought it said they were breeding and getting into foal up to a 100 mares with this procedure.
