I have a 10yr. old Appy mare that I have been breeding since the age of 5 that has never conceived. She used to cycle like clock-work throughout the entire breeding season. Now, last year and this year, she will come into heat in the month of June, have about 2 regular heat cycles in which we live cover her, and then the cycling will just stop and she is not in foal. I had her u/s'd after the last live cover this year at about 21 days post breeding by a repro specialist, and she said that the mare was doing absolutely nothing. Her repro system was inactive. There wasn't fluid in the uterus, everything looked healthy, the only thing she could notice was some scarring on the ovaries which she said could be from prior ovulations. So, what I'm wondering is: What could be the reason for this mare just "shutting down" all of a sudden so early in the year? Especially considering the fact that she has always cycled so regularly? Any input is appreciated.
