Hi we have a mare who is a maiden. She is now 29 years old and grazing with a gelding.
Just lately, she has started to produce milk which is dripping out of her teats!
We are sure that she isn't expecting, but what would cause her to start to produce milk?
She is very healthy but just a little slow now.

I've heard of some mare's have a False pregnacy (meaning they have never been bred) and will "carry" all the way up to eleven months and then will just get skinny again. So maybe it's related to that? sorry can't help more

Your mare is old enough to be in the group that develops Cushing's disease. Abnormal lactation is a symptom. Is her hair getting really long and thick?
