We are new to breeding ourselves this year, new stallion owners.
I have a 20 yr old mare who has been examined and is breeding sound, cycling normal, etc etc
We have pasture bred her for 2 cycles now and she is US/palpated not infoal.
We were given lutalyse by our vet and told to try again. Will breeding her live cover increase our chances as opposed to pasture? When is the best time to breed for optimum chances of conception? What else could be wrong?
My vet told me that sometimes you just have to be persistent with the older mares. I can tell you my mare was an older maiden, and was bred live cover. When she was first covered, she would squat wink, look very receptive, but as soon as the stallion got near her she would try to walk away. This may be one of the problems you are having in the pasture. LIve cover may increase your chances in that you will be able to ger to stand still. I can tell you the stud owner who bred my mare breeds every other day while the mare is in noticeable heat and will stand. I don't know if she has any special tricks other than that. Good luck!
