I'm considering taking a mare, 6 or 7yo, who hasn't been able to be used as a broodmare because she was producing no progesterone. I'm told thousands of $$$$ were spent trying to get/keep her in foal, to no avail. However... she was a racehorse & I can't help but wonder if that might be due to steroid use while she was racing (just wondering/making an assumption, I have no idea if this was the case). She's VERY well bred & should nick well with the stallion I want to breed her to, IF I could get & keep her in foal. Would you take the chance? I'm not sure how long she's been off the track but I know it can sometimes take a couple/few years for them to get "normal" again. And that sometimes they don't get back to normal. She's young tho so I don't imagine she's been off very long. I will find out more but I'd like to get some input before I express much interest. If I decide to take her & am unable to get her to carry to term, I would either keep her anyway or find her a good home. Thoughts? Thanks.
