I bought a Bashkir Curly at Easter and was guaranteed she was not pregnant. She immediately started to look fatter and fatter. I decreased her food. she became very mean around her food. About 10 days ago she started dripping milk, so we had a vet come out and he said he was 70% sure she was pregnant. Now her abdoman appears to have shifted toward the back. She has not dripped milk for 2 days. Her vulva appears more swollen. her eating habits are erratic. We called he previous owners and they unexpectly had a mare foal last week. There are 2 stallions that lived on those premisis. Could this possibly be a false pregnacy or could there be something seriuoslky wrong with her. Or do I still need to continue getting up every 2 hours at night. I would appreciate any help

Did he attempt to palpate her? There should be no question if she is pregnant or not. At the stage that you are describing, there should be no doubt. I would seriuosly consider a different vet, especially if she foals. You may need assistance and this vet does not sound up to it. Please increase her feed gradually, she will need it. Try spiltting it up into 3 feedings a day. I would watch her carefully. Have a vet on call that is experienced with foaling and will come quickly when called.

I would contact the previous owners and remind them of their " guarantee". You will incur added financial resposibilities with the birth of this foal. I would ask for them to share in the payments of any vet bills, extra feed, etc. I would also request a DNA verification of parentage.

Once again, I will stress that another vet should be called to assist you at this time. You will need knowledgable, experienced guidance. Good luck and keep us informed.

Jennie- How is everything going? Has she waxed at all, or progressed any? I hope that all is well.

She has had slight waxing, and is extremely grumpy. Her hip bones have seem to reappear. She eat slower than before. She still look fat, but we have really never felt any definate movement. There was a extemely slight drainage from her vaginal area today ( Sunday). Since we have no idea exactly if and when she was impregnated we could be waiting a long time (if pregnant at all). I know I am just tired of getting up every night.
