I recently took my maiden mare to have a culture done and the vet said she had a persistent hymen. I had never heard of this before. She said that she could not get through it and that I wa going to have to have it laser opened. Any idea about this. The vet did not go into great detail with me

A persistent hymen is not uncommon. While a laser will certainly accomplish the act of opening her, a pair of surgical scissors may well be cheaper although she will bleed (which she probably won't with the laser).
