Just wondering if anyone has a copy of what should be included in a AI contract? I was really dump with doing AI last year and just assumed that the stallion owner would have their stallion tested before offering to ship semen. Never did get my mare in foal. It has been a great (and expensive) learning experiance. What are the proper protacols for shipping semen?
I have bred via shipped cool semen the past several years, and probably will only do so from now on. I find it much cheaper, and my mares never leave the property. As far as what is on the contracts, I've got a few that I reviewed for you...
Conditions: (overview of most contracts) 1. Dates semen will be collected/shipped & price per shipment. Whether or not counter-to-counter is offered and $$. Time you must call for request for shipment on designated day. 2. Breeders responsibility a. ship semen in viable condition to mare owner, to best of ability. b. shipments to leave stallion farm analyzed for motility/sperm count. c. stallion tested free of infectious disease, etc. d. mare owner responsible for shipment once it leaves farm...mare owner responsiblity to file claim for lost shipments, etc. e. licensed dvm should inseminate mare immediately upon receipt of semen...only to be used for designated mare on breeding contract. f. mares residing at farm get first dibs on semen.
Above is just a summation of the basics. Hope that helps.
Heather thank you that helps alot. None of this was done. Thanks again.
