The topic subject may not be accurate for my question but here it is.
We collected our stallion the other day for a mare that was about 60 miles away, We delivered 2 50 mil tubes each with just over a billion sperm in each tube, spun down and extended. His motility at collection was 50%. Usually my stallion has 60-70% motility but I think him being agitated and worked up in a bad sweat about an hour before collection may have a part to play in it, anyways, we delivered the semen by driving it to the vet who was doing the AI and he gave the first dose. the next morning, 12 hours later, the vet calls and says the motility is only 5-10%, leaning closer to 5% and if we can collect again.
Now my stallion usually only loses maybe 10% after 24 hours, this was not the first mare we have collected for this season, so I am not understanding how he lost 45% in only 12 hours. The vet did not give the dose, we told him we did not know if we would be able to collect him again. The vet waited untill 9 hours after the call and called back and said he had not given it yet and he just checked it again and it was still looking like 5%, asking us if we wanted him to give it to the mare, said we had some say in what goes in her. I told him its not my mare, I dont have a say, but he insisted we tell him what to do. This is a DVM!!!
We said to give it.. but my question is, Is it really possible that my stallion lost 45% motility in 12 hours, but did not lose anything in the next 9 hours... this sounds pretty flakey to me...
