I have a black and white stud who I am going to breed next year for the 1st time. I have a women who said she wants to be the 1st to breed to him, but the mare she wants to use is half mustang and i think she has some appy in her. Shes not the best looking horse i have seen. The true is i dont like the way she looks at all. What i want to know is if the foal takes after the mare ( who has alot of comformation faults) Will the blame fall back on my stud?
Marcey, I would try and stear clear of this mare. As the stallion owner it is your decision who he breeds and who he doesn't. People nearly always blame the stallion for crooked legs or bad temp and nearly always forget that the mare plays her role to. I wouldn't breed to her if it was my choice. If the lady is that desperate though, and you dont want to say no, maybe you could do the breeding and just not hand out any paperwork for the breeding. That way it is all hear say if the foal turns out like its dam.
