I bought a colt from many states away as a yearling and had a vet do a palpation before I bought him to see if he had both testicles, the vet put him under anathesia and found one very small right testicle and one large left. This was a year ago and I still can not feel the right one only a very large left one. I am debating as to not using him for breeding since I can only find one. He is extremly well bred and I bought him for the purpose of showing and breeding and will be taking a big loss gelding him. I have heard that if you breed them, sometimes the 2nd one will drop? What do you think I should do, get a 2nd opinion?
I would get him checked again. It may be that he retained the other one. If thats the case then if he has the qualities for being a stallion spend the money for the surgery to bring it down( it will cost you more to geld him anyway if its retained high in the abdominal cavity) but ask you vet what he/she may think. And I would also make sure he is fertile before even doing the sergery(s)
