I have noticed that my stallion wants to nip and bite gently when teasing or prior to breeding. I have discouraged this. Is that normal or ok for a stallion to do? He is not aggressive just uses his teeth a bit. Every time he starts I say "stop it". Thats his cue to cut whatever naughtiness out. This is his first year and first experiences. I know this is the most important time for setting his behaviour. I really do not want to mess it up. What should I make of this?

He is not a nippy stallion with his humans. He has never been allowed to even put his lips on us.

lori,
we do not allow it, and we stop it. It seems that once you start to allow it in one situation they tend to want to nip more often.

I think that you are doing the right thing by not allowing it. We are working with a young fellow and he has tried and the mares really don't like it either. We correct him every time and tell him no, be nice and that seems to do ok.

Good luck
Kim
