We have a 3 year old stallion. He has never been bred before. He is healthy and everything looks good that way. He will act studdy. We have seen him dropped and thumping. He is very vocal hollers at the mares etc. When we bring him to tease the mares he never drops. Bring the mare to him doesnt drop. Even tried tying the mare to the front of the round pen and letting him loose in the pen. He pays her attention then walks off. Comes back talks etc but never drops. We have her ready to breed walk him up he talks etc will try to mount but wont drop. We have tried numerous mares to see if he has a preference nothing has worked yet. Running out of ideas any thoughts on how to get him to drop?

Remember he's a colt, not a stallion yet! In other words, he's still a teenager in human terms, and as with humans, some teenagers develop sexually earlier than others.

Has he been disciplined for showing masculine behaviour at any time - often something that is seen in the show ring or show training situation. There is a very rapid learning process associated with sexual situations and a single negative experience in a sexual situation can elicit a refusal to repeat, so if he has been punished for acting "studdy" when someone is near, you may have a little bit of an uphill battle ahead of you...

If the above is not the case, then it is probably just a matter of giving him a little time to mature. And remember that negative learning curve thing in a sexual situation - if you rush him and try and force him to do something he's not comfortable doing, it can backfire and cause headaches later.
