Is there any method to tell how tall a colt will be. I mean average height? I am just wondering, my colt is a yearling in 2 weeks and he is now 13.2 hands tall. I would like to know how tall he will be on average.
I would also like to know if there is a true formula, because i have a qh filly who is a week shy of 9 months who too stands 13.2h tall. My vet figured she would mature to 15.1-15.2, based on her knee height, what formulas he uses im not sure. I had a qh-welch cross i bought at 3 months old and the guy i got her from had his theory, and she at 2 1/2 was at what he predicted. He took a lead and held it at her front knee gap, then held the lead rope up to backside her front shoulder joint on the backside where there is kindof a point there, then he kept his fingers on the two spots of the rope, and held the one on her shoulder joint, rotated the end that was on her knee up and supposedly that is where the withers will be. i hope that i explained that clear enough.
I had been told if you run some string from the centre of the knee down to the pastern and then mark that point on the string, the take the same bit of string and go from the same knee but up towards the wither then where the marker is, is how tall the horse will mature to ... dunno how much truth is in it but may help some.
