I want a QuickCheck but can't justify paying $1500 to check my stallion's semen. Even if I had an extra $1500 laying around doing nothing I only own 1 stallion that I'm collecting and shipping this year. I probably ship to only 5 - 8 mares in a breeding season getting a QuickCheck would be an expensive luxury. But what if you get together with a couple of other small farms that collect their own stallion that live near by and co-oped a QuickCheck, the chances are you would not all need it at the same.
What do you think? Good idea or bad idea? Or should I keep dreaming of winning the lotto and get my own?
Consider getting a Quick Check Junior at $995. While it doesn't do the calculations for you, you can simply enter the information into our Semen Calculator and get the results there. Alternatively, get a hemocytometer which at $119.95 is considerably cheaper - and you should already have a microscope. While it is more tedious to count sperm with a hemocytometer, it is quite easy once you get the hang of it.
If you try to share a unit, you can almost guarantee it will (a) be needed by multiple farms on the same day; and (b) always be at the wrong farm!!!
I loved mine and never regretted the purchase. While it was expensive it saved me a ton of work in the breeding shed and I made sure I gave my customers the best product I could....
