We have just purchased a 4 year old Tennessee Stallion(never been bred). The lady before us always kept this horse on his own. So he has no social graces and is over bearing. I can deal with the over bearing, what I want to know is how can I get this horse socialized properly. We do a lot of mountain riding with other people. Thanks Gord
Have you got outdoor yards where you could introduce an elderly gelding to him over the rails? Yard them next to each other for increasing periods of time and as long as they are ok together then turn them out into the paddock together. The stallion will most likely recognise the aged horse is no threat to his world and the benefits of mutual grooming will most likely over-ride everything else. Persevere and you will get there.
