When we take our mares to be covered we put them in a stand (cant remember the technical name) and take the stallion to her to see if she will accept him or not (he sniffs her all over and we see what she does)! If we see she is ready we take the stallion away for a sec and take the mare out of the stand and to a safe place..rubber floor etc and let the stallion do his thing!

My question is (i am getting a licenced pinto stallion tomorrow) is it best to take the mare to the stallion to tease or the other way round!
Our stallion box is safe secure and high but it has bars..is it safe to lead the mare past his box? Or should everything concerning covering be done elsewhere? Should i take the stallion to the mare (then you can have problems to hold him back if she is not ready!??) How do you guys do it? I am worried to take an in season mare to his box incase he gets the wrong idea everytime a mare walks by...??

I handle both. I usually handle the teaser then have one of my workers handle the mare that way I can view her vulva and see how she is teasing. The place where they put mares to set them up for the breeding is called stocks.
