Hi, I have a stallion, mare and colt (male, 3 days old) The Stallion wants to get at the colt He snorts and has jumped the fence to get at the colt. The mare is very protective of her colt...which is GREAT! We are new to breeding and are not sure what is happening with the stallion. We have him in another field but he tries to get out so he can see the mare and colt. If he can see them then he is fine, if not he will jump the fence and go after the fowl. Why does he act like this??? Is it jealousy??? I would really appreciate someones imput on this situation.
It could be one of a variety of things. In the wild, the stallions are very commonly the "babysitters" of the herd, so curiosity would be normal. It could also however be aggression, so your care is warranted!
