You all are probably sick of answering testicle questions, but I haven't really gotten the answer in black and white that I am looking for.
I bought a Welsh colt. When he arrived, his testes were not to be found.
The vet said he def felt one, but barely the other.
Summer came and so did one testicle. The vet says he thinks he can feel the other one but barely.
The colt turned 2 in Feb. and is definately showing he's studly around the ladies.
So if the teste can be felt, will it come down on it's own?
If not, is there surgery that can be done to drop it?
Not looking for false hopes, just the truth.

Have the vet tranquilise the colt and lay him down. If he can palpate or ultrasound the testicles you're fine. If the testicle[s] is being carried high or is small (not unusual in a 2 yo pony colt!) it may not be palpable with him standing.

Just thought I would update on my colt's status.
He turned 3 in Feb and still no second teste. I was pretty upset as his show career was over. Low and behold, last month the second finally appeared!
We're off to the show next month!

Thanks for the update Andrea, my colt still only has one that we can feel but he is only just 10 months so from what you have said there is hope yet!
(I want to get them chopped off though!!!) |

Jane, I'm beginning to think crypts are more rare than people think...
I think the issue is that people don't wait to see what will happen.
If a gelding is wanted, I can understand the need for gelding quickly.
But I believe if let be, that most suspected crypts aren't really crypts.
Is there a term for a "Late dropper"?
I still find myself checking to make certain it's still there. Funny thing is, it's bigger than the one that was already down or at least it's the one that hangs lowest.
The time spent inside didn't damage it did it? Anyone know? It'll produce live swimmers now that it's outside, right?

hey my 3 years old that way to the last to drop hangs lower and i find my self looking for the first one!! every now and then im like... i know there was two the other day... |

Andrea, I love your little guy, I'm a sabino fan. Are those ears or horns on top of his head. Unfortunately down here in Florida the welsh shows are small. Good luck with the show season, stay in touch, love to hear how he is doing.
I have 1 Section B mare that had a section b colt last month, doesn't really fit into my program but he is so darn cute. I breed for large and medium hunter ponies, the rest of my mares are welshXarab,welshXtb crosses and one tbXpaint. My stallion, Sparks Will Fly,(welshXtb) is 2 and stands 14.0, I think the will make it to 14.1 maybe a hair over. So I'll probably end up gelding him in a few year after I freeze some semen and selling him as a show pony.

LOL, horns. He's a fun litle guy and such a great personality. Everyone loves him at first sight.
The barn owner makes me hide him when she has potential buyers for her ponies come over. They see Frodo and want him instead! |
