After a perfectly normal and uneventful covering, the mare passed blood-stained fluid and on return to the field promptly laid down (flat out) groaning, depressed, passed more blood stained fluid. Had the vet out urgently and on examination she was very bruised and inflamed - he said she had a rather short vagina and that the stallion had penetrated too deeply and bruised the cervix. He suggested using a 'bolster' between the mare and the stallion - but couldn't offer any further insight into how to make one - or how to 'attach' it to the mare. Has anyone found a way to do this?   Anonymous Posted on Monday, July 05, 2004 - 10:04 pm:        We had this problem with one of our stallions when we still live covered, what worked for us, we stood the mare on an incline(uphill from the stallion) so when the stallion penetrated her he couldn't go in as deep and didn't cause any damage. Since then we have gone to collecting all stallions and inseminating all mares which eliminated this problem as well as a lot of others.
