A 20 yr old that hasn’t been bred for 10 yrs, 14 yr maiden, 6 yr maiden, and 10 yr that has had 7 foals. The only one that is settle is the 10 yr old . He has settled my mares the last 3 yrs first time every year. Should I be worried? I asked my vet, and all he said was welcome to the world of breeding. Thanks for any input. Did they even have pre-breeding evaluations performed? If not, then I am sure you now understand another aspect of the importance of doing so... it can avoid unfair fingers being pointed at the stallion in the absence of pregnancies. Have you looked at his semen? If not, you might like to have that evaluated. Something as simple as an injury causing hemospermia (blood in the semen) could produce these results, and without an evaluation you might not know there were such a problem. Should you be worried? Probably. If for no other reason than that you now have some upset mare owners and the start of a bad reputation for your stallion. Should you be hitting the panic button? Probably not yet, but you may want to re-evaluate your pre-breeding mare health requirements (if that is an issue) and/or evaluate semen for problems, and/or review your breeding practices (timing/frequency/ejaculation confirmation practices etc.).
