Is this normal? He never had much of a discharge days immediately after the surgery, but today there is some.. he is still swollen, but that has decreased slightly. Also, a weird thing I noticed 2 days ago, was dark rust coloured urine in one of our feed pans that is left outside. I don't know which horse it was from, but I am assuming it was from this colt. Does the urine turn red after gelding as well? That said, it's not terribly unusual for a newly gelded colt to start dripping a couple days later as the swelling is going down. As long as it's not pussy (opaque, yellow or green), it is probably just serum tinged with old blood. As to the rust colored urine, some horses urine always turns red when exposed to the sun. It has somthing to do with something in the feed. The name escapes me right now. I have a mare who's urine is always obviously red in the winter when there is clover in the hay. I'm sure the same thing happens with geldings.
